At the time of his retirement 10 years ago, he was the Oklahoma City agency supervisor with jurisdiction over all Oklahoma and New Mexico agencies. He started with the company as an office boy at the age of 16. He worked in Texas, Arkansas and Arizona before coming to Oklahoma City as agency manager in 1905.
A prominant civic leader since the early days, Bewley was instrumental in the founding of Oklahoma City University (then Epsworth University) and the YWCA. He was a long-time member of the city chamber of commerce and the city Kiwanis club.
Bewley was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian church and a 32nd degree Mason. He was born in Clay Center KS and reared in Fort Worth.
He is survived by his wife, Arbella, of the home; his daughter, Mrs John Jarman; and a son, Hamilton Bewley, both also of the home; five grandchildren and four great grand-children. There are also two sisters, Mrs Stewart Cameron and Mrs Florence Rodwell, both of Lemon Grove CA; and a brother, Winton Bewley, Vada MO.
Services will be at 2 pm Thursday in Westminster Presbyterian church at 4400 N Shartel. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under direction of the Street & Draper funeral home.
