Rites for Henry Birkett, Youth Director, Tomorrow
Services for Henry (Harry) Birkett, 78, of 409 E, Thrush Ave., 33 years the Youth Director of Salvation Army here, will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Wilton Mortuary.
Mr. Birkett died at 5:40 p.m. yesterday at Methodist Hospital where he had been a patient since Jan. 4. A resident of the above address four years and Peoria 33 years, Mr. Birkett, who held the title of envoy in the Salvation Army, was born Sept. 17, 1888, at Millom – Cumberland, England, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Hodgson Birkett. He was married to Mazie Glick Sept. 4, 1915 at Lake Odessa, Mich., who survives. She was also a welfare veteran at the Salvation Army Citadel prior to retirement in 1960. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters. Mrs. Theodore (Dolly) Richards and Mrs. Everett (Phyllis) Coombs, both of Peoria; one brother, Vernon Birkett of Flint, Mich.; five grandchildren: and two great grandchildren. A son, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Friends may call at the mortuary 4 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Peoria.
