Callaway, Claire Malis - loving wife, mother, and actress, passed away August 24, 2012 at City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, Ca., of congestive heart failure and pneumonia, after having recovered from Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma through a stem cell transplant administered at City of Hope in 2010. Claire was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. She was the daughter of steelworker Willard Malis and his wife, Eugenia Matau Malis. After graduating from Indiana University, Claire attended the American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York, where she was awarded the "Best Actress" of her class. She performed in Broadway national tours and the Broadway show "No Sex Please, We're British". At the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, she performed in William Ball's "Taming of The Shrew". Claire returned to New York to become Dorian Lord on daytime television's "One Life to Live" for several years. In 1980, Claire moved to LA where she appeared in numerous television series, movies for television, and theater productions. She costarred in "Detective Story" at the Ahmanson Theater, and became a regular on the TV series "Facts of Life". She co- created "In The Trenches Productions" featuring entertainment for women. Claire is survived by her husband, architectural and interior designer, Thomas Callaway, her son, Catlin Callaway, and her brother, Lee Malis of Duluth, Minnesota.
