Richard V. Ludden, 68, of 108 Van Horn St., West Springfield, widely known as a landscape architect and horticulturist, died Tuesday at Springfield Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Suffield, Conn. on Dec. 5, 1894, son of Almon C. and Bessie (Harris) Ludden and had lived in West Springfield for 35 years. He attended Suffield schools. He joined the Adams Nursery Co., Westfield in 1920, where he met and married the former Ruth Adams. In 1942, he became a landscape architect at Stanley Home Products, where he was instrumental in creating and beautifying the gardens at Stanley Park, Westfield. He was a former member of the First Congregational Church, Suffield, the Masonic Lodge and Kiwanis Club, both of Westfield and the Orpheus Club of this city.
He leaves a daughter, Phyllis A. Ludden of Westfield. The funeral will be held at the Byron funeral home Friday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Charles G. King, pastor of Mittineague Congregational Church will officiate. Visitng hours are tonight from 7 to 9.
