Born in Ireland, he was the son of James and Ann Caley.
Immigrated in 1860 and headed to Long Island. He made West Neck his home for many years. He was a very well known farm laborer.
Married Maria Halligan in 1862, and had 9 children:
John, James Fletcher Jr., Michael, William, Rose Ann, the twins- Thomas and Henry, Mary and Alice.
Funeral Services were conducted by the Very Reverend John C. York, of Brooklyn at St. Patrick's Church on Monday, March 15, 1915. Interment was in St. Patrick's Cemetery, West Neck.
