Eleanor and Bert adopted Don when he was 4 years old. Eleanor was a different person to read. They had not told Don about his adoption and he found out when he was 15. It hurt him really bad that he had not been told. His biological family had tried to get ahold of him when he was in the Navy to let him know that his biological Mother had died. She screamed at them that Don was not adopted and stay out of it. She had this thing her whole life that she wanted to keep Don's adoption a secret. Don said that he had several bad experiences. She was sick a lot and he said that his Aunt Billie and Grandma Ames were more like a Mother to him. When I met Eleanor she treated me really nice, but her and Don had a tense relationship. It has taken me a long time to add this bio, because I am sure there were times when Eleanor could be very kind and caring. After her death Don found out that he had 9 half brothers and sisters and he got to meet and have a relationship with them after he was 60 years old. Don's daughters loved their Grandma Kinder and Becky said her fondest memory was when they would visit she had these really cool books with poems. and she would sit on the floor and read them.

Sarah Heleanor Was Don's adopted Mom. Heleanor was her given name, but she did not like it so shortened it to Eleanor.
