Born About 1734 and died in early 1798, since the estate was administered by his wife Susannah and his son Benjamin on July 2, 1798.

Richard held the position of Constable in Amherst Co., Virginia for several years, probably from about 1766 to 1769.

Richard served in the American Revolution in the Second Division of the Militia of Virginia under Capt. Samuel Higginbotham. This company marched under Captain Higginbotham through Albemarle, Fluvannna, and Goochland counties to Richmond, Virginia.

By 1790 Richard and his whole family had moved from Virginia to South Carolina. On the 1790 census he is residing in the 96th District, Edgefield Co., South Carolina.
