Husband: Anthon H. Sund (1911-1994)

Helen L Sund 1915-2004 passed away February 13,2004 at the age of 88 in the Woodland Care Center after a lengthy illness.

Born in Copenhagen Demark in 1915 to Karl August Ritter and Ebba Elenora Amelia Larsen.

She emigrated to the United States with her grandmother, Anna Petrine Miller Larsen in August of 1922. Shortly after arriving Anna married Joseph M. Smith of Draper, Utah and Helen settled into her new family and new life.

Helen quickly adjusted to a new language and from the beginning excelled in her school work. She had beautiful penmanship and at the age of 16 became a scribe for her Grandfather Smith who was a Stake Patriarch in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Helen was actively involved in the church, holding positions in the Relief Society, Sunday School, Primary and MIA.

Helen married Anthon (Tony) Hans Sund on Sept 23,1936. in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After having shared 57 years of love and companionship Tony passed away on March 6,1994.

Helen is survived by her two daughters Shelley (Dean) Soper of Woodland Washington, and Susan (Dan) Harrison of Eureka, NV. 18 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren.

Being creative in sewing and crafts she made many of her own clothes and clothes for her girls and gifts for her friends and contributed her time and talents to many humanitarian projects. She was always the first one there to lend a helping hand whether to help out a sick friend or neighbor or making layettes for newborns for the hospital where she volunteered more than 7,000 hours of her time.

In March of 1999 she moved to Woodland, Washington to live with her daughter Shelley and her family. She missed Utah and the beautiful mountains and her friends, but she grew to love Washington with its beautiful scenery and friendly people.

And once agin the urge to serve others stirred her to action. At age 85 she volunteered as a mentor at the Intermediate School in Woodland helping children with reading difficulties. She continued this for three years until her health prevented her from continuing.

Helen loved music, and encouraged her daughters to pursue their musical interests driving them many miles and sacrificing much time and money for their dance and music lessons. Her reward was the great enjoyment she got from hearing them play and sing her favorite songs. Helen"s love, compassion, friendship, and beautiful smile will be missed by all who knew her as she is gathered back into the fold of our Heavenly Faather and Tony's loving arms.

Her family wishes to thank the Woodland Care Center for their loving and tender care of Helen and all of her friends who visited her during those long and lonely hours.

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 21 at 12 noon at Larkin Sunset Garden Chapel at 1950 East 10600 So. Sandy, Utah. Viewing two hours prior to services.
