Ambrose Atwater, in a transcription of his self-written biography, states Thomas was born in Cheshire, Connecticut on April 8, 1775 "...the day of the battle of Lexington". On April 8, 1775, the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts passed a resolution to raise an army to protect themselves from British aggression. The Battle of Lexington and Concord was on April 19, 1775. No original documentation found to confirm either date; it is possible that Ambrose wrote "April 18", or that he mixed up the date of the resolution and the battle.

In "Vol 1, Atwater History and Geneology", the author states Thoomas was born April 19, 1773.

The Burlington Free Press (Burlington, Vermont) February 16, 1859: "The death of a worthy citizen is recorded in our paper today. Mr. Atwater had been a resident of Burlington for 60 years."

"Died - In Burlington, Feb. 15, 1859, Thomas Atwater, aged 83 years.
The funeral wll be attended to-morrow, Feb. 17th, at 2 P.M. from the house of Mr. John Y. Drew on Shelburn street."
