Albert was born in Holland on 2nd of March 1838 to John Albert and Bethia Brucker (Brooks). His mother died at sea in childbirth. Before his name was Americanized he was called Eimbert Brucker. He had a sister named Sophia. Albert died on March 2, 1922 in Princeton, Minnesota.

During the Dakota War of 1862, Albert Brooks drove a team for supplies to Sissieton, S.D. He built a house on part of the old Allen Grave place, now Mrs. James Peterson's. Albert and his father farmed near Princeton, Minn. for many years. He was the local animal doctor around Stubbs Bay for many years.

The Brooks family burial plot is in Union Cemetery overlooking Long Lake, Minn., where Albert and Ruth, Agnes and Tacy, and Oscar and Julia were all buried.
