"Funeral services for Rufus Newton Bailey, 77, who died Thursday in the University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kidwell Funeral Home, Versailles, with burial in Big Rock Cemetery. The Rev. John Zimmer officiated.

Mr. Bailey's death resulted from burns received in a gas stove explosion in his home in Pleasant Hill.

He was born in Morgan County on Oct. 1, 1880, and was married to Miss Mary Wilson, who preceded him in death in 1951. Mr. Bailey was a farmer and spent most of his life in Morgan County, moving to Pleasant Hill about seven years ago.

Surviving are three sons, Gussie of Marshall, Paul of Diamond, and William Bailey of Harrisonville; six daughters, Mrs. Mae Lampton and Mrs. Lillie O'Connor, both of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Hazel Fisher, Mrs. Opal Fitzgerel and Mrs. Virginia Davis, all of Kansas City, and Mrs. Ruby Hardey of Syracuse; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Willie Bailey of Stoutland; and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Hoskins of Fortuna and Mrs. George Hicks of Barnett."
