Funeral services for Abner Bryant, Tyler, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Jennings and Rev. James Cheatham officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Highway 64 West, Tyler.
Mr. Bryant died April 3, 2007, in Tyler. He was born in Lux, Miss., on Sept. 17, 1913, to Jonas F. and Ettie Holmes Bryant. After the death of his mother in 1924, the family moved to Winnsboro, La., to be near his maternal grandparents.
He served in the Army in World War II, being discharged from Camp Fannin in Tyler. He started working as a carpenter here at that time.
On June 10, 1946, he married Lula Ann Ferguson of Winnsboro, La. They made their home in Tyler, where Mr. Bryant was a building contractor. After retiring, he worked with Texas Baptist Men Retiree Builders, building churches throughout the states.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mrs. Rutha Russell, Winnsboro, La.; and a brother, Hezekiah Bryant of Hernando, Miss.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Bryant of Tyler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita Beam and husband Bruce of Tyler, Alecia Holland and husband Mike of Hideaway; and two grandsons, Jeff Liles of Tyler, and Kale Liles and his wife Samantha of Fort Campbell, Ky.
He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Russell of Moscow, Tenn., and Mrs. Lucille Davis of Tioga. La.
Abner was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and teacher.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Liles, Kale Liles, Curt Liles, Stafford Bryant, Carl King, Bob Stagner, Zach Banks and Harold McFarland.
Honorary pallbearers will be Texas Baptist Men Retiree Builders and deacons of Westwood Baptist Church.
Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Highway 64 W., Tyler.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Texas Baptist Men Retiree Builders, Dixon Building, 5351 Catron, Dallas, 75227; or Westwood Baptist Church. 720 Loop 323, Tyler, 75702.
