Mr. John Lewis, an old resident of this township, died very suddenly on Friday, December 26th, aged aout 65 years. He leaves a wife and one son, Mr. Edward Lewis and one daughter, both married.

— Mr. Lewis, one of the oldest residents of LeSueur County, living a short distance west of Elysian, died suddenly Saturday.

John Lewis born in Oxford Township, New Haven County, Conn. on April 28, 1815. Was one of the "New Haven Company" who purchased the barque "Ann Reynolds" and sailed her to California arriving there in February 1849.

In April 1857 moved to Lisburn, Penn. where he engaged in match manufacture until 1866 when he moved to Minnesota and from then was engaged in farming.

His death occurred December 26, 1884. He fell dead from his chair with no previous sickness although he had gradually been failing for a year or more.

John Lewis is one of the six children of Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Lewis. He married Emeline Johnson on November 27, 1836. John and Emeline Lewis lived in Westville, Connecticut, then Lisburn Pensylvania and finally to Elysian, Minnesota.

John and Emeline six children, three of whom died in infancy. The children are: John, Martha A., Martha A., Frances E., Dr. Edwin J. Lewis and Emma Alice Lewis.

John Lewis died December 26, 1884 in Elysian, Minnesota and is buried there, in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
