Surgical- Last January, Mr. William Painter, a farmer about 50 years of age, residing in the town of Yellowstone, while engaged at work in a mine received an injury to his right eye from a piece of rock, which although not apparently a serious injury at first, continued to trouble him until about four weeks ago when the cornea, already weakened by repeated ulcerations partially gave way and a large staphyloma resulted. Mr. Painter called upon Dr. A.E. Smith last week, and the doctor advised the removal of the eye, as it was of no longer any use to him and a constant source of pain as well as threatening the sight of its fellow. The operation was performed last Tuesday by Dr. Smith assisted by W.W. Peck and E.F. Woods.

This operation is one of considerable difficulty, but was neatly done in about five minutes. The patient rallied nicely from the shock and at present bids fair to make a rapid recovery- Darlington Democrat.
