Abigail "Abby" Fardon Stymiest was born 29 August 1814 (possible Christening date) and was the eldest daughter of Benjamin Stymiest III and Charlotte Mary Hierlihy. She was named for her paternal grandmother, Abigail Rebecca Fardon who had married Benjamin Christoffel Stymiest, a British loyalist. They relocated from New York to New Brunswick after the Revolutionary War on November 6, 1783. The Stymiest family is of Dutch descent: Casparus Stymiest II (or Stynmets) and his wife Jannetje Gerritsen Van Wagenen emigrated from Holland to New Amsterdam (New York) in 1631.

Abby married Adam Stewart of Miramichi, New Brunswick on 12 November 1839.

Adam and Abby had 2 daughters and seven sons: William Bryant, James Stymiest, Benjamin Francis, John, Margaret H. (Mrs. John Dickinson), George Alexander, Joseph Matthias, David Goodfellow, and Elizabeth J. Stewart (Mrs. Joseph Dickinson).

Abby died at the age of 90.

Her brothers and sisters were: Benjamin Fardon, James Peabody, Francis Peabody, William William, John S., Mary Jane (Mrs. Frederick Mellish, later Mrs. Alfred Green), Charlotte (Mrs. James Devereau), and Phoebe (Mrs. Donald Robertson McKinnon).
