Funeral services for Joseph A. Phillips, 72 years old, whose death occurred after two months' illness early Saturday morning, March 6, at his home in Blacksville, W. Va., will be conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Blacksville Methodist Church following short services at the Phillips home at 1:30. The services will be in charge of the Rev. J. A. Hockenberry, of Friendsville, Md., formerly of Blacksville. One of Blackville's most prominent citizens, Mr. Phillips was widely known in West Virginia and Pennsylvania oil and gas circles. He had been a member of the Methodist Church for many years and took an active part in church work. serving as a steward for several years. He was a son of Asbury and Katherine Zook Phillips. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Cassie Ellen Patterson Phillips; three daughters, Mrs. Maxon Chalfant, of Philadelphia; Sweet and Olive, at home, and six sons, Oakey Phillips, of San Antonio, Texas; Charles, of Red Barn, Texas; Joseph, of Weworks, Okla.; Edison, of Tarentum; Marion and Lloyd, of Blacksville. A sister, Mrs. Emma Watson, of New Freeport, also survives along with 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two daughters are deceased.
