Obituary: Donald M. Anderson Funeral services with military honors will be Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 4 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel for Mr. Donald M. Anderson "Andy," 84, Attalla, with the Rev. Phillip Ellen officiating and great-nephew Nicholas Mitchell Bailey speaking. Burial will be at Butler Cemetery with no graveside services. Mr. Anderson passed away at the residence Feb. 25, 2012. He was a native of Aurora and resided in Attalla most of his life and attended CrossPoint Community Church. Private Anderson was in the 82nd Airborne in World War II and was the first man to jump from a C-82 in Normandy. He received an honorable discharge in 1948 and married Mary Frances Wilson in 1949. During his lifetime, he was employed at Bessemer Pipe, Attalla Pipe, McClain's Dairy, Marshall Space Flight Center, City of Attalla, "Building Inspector" and retired from Republic Steel. He was a member of the Lions Club and received Lion of the Year two consecutive years. He and his wife established Anderson's Shoes and Boots in 1971 and worked there after retirement until 2010. Those preceding him in death were his wife, Mary Frances Anderson; parents, William and Della Mae Anderson; brothers, Bevard Anderson, Rudolf Anderson, Howell Anderson; and sister, Kastell Goss. Survivors: brother, Thomas Anderson, Albertville; sister, Patricia Strickland, Orlando, Fla.; daughters, Deborah Ford (Danny), Central, S.C., Tammy Fuhrman, Attalla; grandchildren, Jennifer Ford, Ashleigh Edwards, Elizabeth Ford, Hayley Norman (Stephen), Lee Ford and Miller Fuhrman; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers: Tommy Anderson, Richard Anderson, John Anderson, Danny Ford, Lee Ford, Jordan Ford, Stephen Norman and Jim Graham. Honorary pallbearers: Thomas Anderson, Miller Fuhrman, Butch Moulds, Mike Swindall, Gary Shirley and Pablo Martinez. Special thanks to Gadsden Regional Hospice, Attalla Fire Department, Dr. Debora Reiland, Joanne Vaughn, Ashley Mills, Brenda Nunn, April Helms, Darlene Stanford and Jerrie Fuhrman (Mimi).
