Edward Richard Black was the son of William Farmer Black and Lucinda Humes McKissick Black. He was born in Clarion County, PA, December 8 1869. He died in Brownwood, Brown County, TX on October 7, 1948, age 78 years 9 months 22 days. He had resided in Nineveh, and Waynesburg, PA, moving to San Angelo,Texas in 1926 and then to Brownwood, TX in 1944.

Surviving are his wife Mary Alice (McDonnell) , three children, Mrs. Katherine May (Frank R.) Pester and Mary E. Black both of Brownwood, TX and James A. Black of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Marion Loren Black, New Martinsville, WV and 2 grandsons and one granddaughter--Democrat Messenger, October 11, 1948

He was one of eight brothers, all born in Clarion County, PA, George M; John Henry; Samuel Porter; David Harrison; Franklin Lemuel; Marion Loren; and William Albert. The brothers worked in the oil and gas fields in PA, WV, and TX.

His first wife Elizabeth Katherine Huffman Black died in 1897 in Greene County, PA and is buried in the Green Mount Cemetery, Waynesburg, PA.

On September 24,1900 he married Mary Alice McDonnell , daughter of Malichai and Catherine McDonnell of WV. She is buried In Green Leaf Cemetery, Brownwood , TX.

Deceased are sons Malichia, Ralph E. , and John William Black. Malichai and Ralph E. are buried in St. Ann Cemetery, Waynesburg, PA. John Willam Black is buried in Texas. A daughter, Josephine M. Davidson is also deceased and is buried in Texas.
