Enlisted 30 Aug 1861 and was commissioned a Capt., 12 Sep 1861 to Co. F; 27th Infantry Regiment; Indiana Volunteers. He is shown to have been a 26 year old railroad conductor standing 6' 4.5". At enlistment he was a resident of Bloomington, IN.

24 May 1862 Wounded at Winchester.
17 Sep 1862 Wounded at Antietam--gunshot thru lungs, injured spinal column.

Died at Boonsboro, Maryland 9-24-62 of wounds. "Big Pete."
