Obituary:
Blanche Irene Myer of Main St., New Martinsville, died Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville, after a long illness. She was born September 23, 1915 at Atwood, Tyler County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late William Leroy Eastham and Dora Miller Eastham. For many years she was a professional photographer in New Martinsville, continuing the Myer's Studio business for several years after her husband's death. She also was a businesswoman who renovated and rented apartments in both New Martinsville and Paden City. Mrs. Myer was a talented painter and had been working on a novel at the time of her first serious illness, more than five years ago. She enjoyed traveling and, even in her 80s, was making long-distance trips by car. She was a member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Myer was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Myer, in 1967. She is survived by a son, J. Michael Myer and his wife, Connie, of Clinton Hills, Ohio County and by two granddaughters, Christina Lynn Myer of Jersey City, NJ and Jessica Erin Myer of Clinton Hills, Ohio County. She also is survived by several nieces, Margaret Daniels and her husband, Richard, of Massillon, Ohio; Betty Woods and her husband, Robert, of New Martinsville; Nancy Auricchio and her husband, Gerald, of Dayton, Ohio; and Michaela McLaughlin and her husband, Gary, of Louisville, Ohio; a nephew James Datwyler of Rancho Cordova, California. Also, a dedicated, compassionate caregiver, Gary Anderson of New Martinsville, whose many acts of kindness did much to make Mrs. Myer's last years easier. Two friends, Melody and Cecil Deiterich of New Martinsville, who were frequent visitors who added much to the quality of Mrs. Myer's life. Another friend and caregiver, Heather Blake of Paden City did much to help Mrs. Myer.
Friends will be received Sunday from Noon until 2pm and from 7-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville. Graveside services will be held on Monday at 11am at Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville, with Rev. Michael Q. Atkinson of New Martinsville United Methodist Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the worthy cause of the donor's choice.
