Albert Choules Jr.

Albert Choules Jr., 86, of Salt Lake City, passed away peacefully of natural causes on December 5, 2012. He was born February 15, 1926 in Driggs, Idaho to Albert and Rula Wilson Choules.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps during his senior year of high school in 1944 and served for 2 ½ years. He then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States. After his return in 1948, he earned his undergraduate education from LDS Business College and Brigham Young University. While at BYU, he met his sweetheart, Rosemary Phillips while they were both serving as student body officers. In 1952, he and Rosemary were married in the Idaho Falls Temple.
After earning his undergraduate degree, Albert applied and was accepted to Harvard University where he earned his Masters in Business Administration. After graduation and a short stint with Union 76 Oil in California, they moved to Phoenix and worked at Western Savings & Loan Association where he eventually became Senior Vice-President. In 1971 he acquired Romney International Hotels which he ran until he was called to full-time church service.
Albert had a great love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and enjoyed serving in the Church. He served in two bishoprics, as a counselor in the Scottsdale Stake Presidency, then as Stake President from 1974 to 1980. In 1980 he was called with Rosemary to serve for three years as President of the New York, New York City Mission. A year after their return, Rosemary passed away from cancer. In 1987, Albert dated and married his beautiful and loving companion of 25 years, Marilyn Jeppson Lowry in the Salt Lake Temple. Their life of service continued.
Albert served in the Mesa Temple as a Sealer before being called from 1988 to 1993 to serve as a General Authority for the Church, spending much of their experience headquartered in Germany and building the Church in Europe. After his release, he served as bishop of the Emigration Stake Single's Ward for six years. In 2003 Albert and Marilyn were called as President and Matron of the Mesa Temple.
Albert leaves a legacy of faith and discipleship as a gift to his family. We always knew how much he loved us and the Lord. His love of the temple was his hallmark and forever changed his life. Whether serving in a position of leadership or sitting tenderly with a grandchild in quiet conversation, he will forever be remembered for his genuine love and compassion. We only hope to carry on his tremendous legacy.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rosemary and brother Tom.
The family would like to thank the loving and capable staff at Canyon Creek Assisted Living Center and Hospice of Utah who took such wonderful care of our husband, father and grandfather. We are so grateful for their never-ending care.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on December 14 at the LDS Holladay 27th Ward building at 5450 South Holladay Blvd in Holladay, Utah, and a viewing and funeral service will be held on December 15th at the same location; the viewing beginning at 9:00 am and the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Albert will be interred in Phoenix, Arizona. He never did like shoveling the snow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund or Perpetual Education Fund.
