James R. Thompson, age 82, formerly of 108 Glenwood Drive, Shelby, died early Saturday morning, April 25, 1998, in the Heritage Care Center after an extended illness.

He was born June 23, 1915 in Shelby, the son of Joseph Samuel and Frances Eva Marie (Burns) Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a Member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby and V.F. W. George Broderick Post # 291 in Shelby. He was a navy veteran of WWII. Mr. Thompson was employed at Wilkins Air Force Depot and retired from the Line Department of the City Of Shelby.

Mr. Thompson is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Mimi Thompson of Shelby; 3 grandsons, Mike and Amy Thompson of Shiloh, Greg Thompson of Lakewood, and Brad Thompson of Shelby; 2 grandchildren , Meagan and Hallie; 1 brother, William Thompson of Shelby; 1 sister, Marge Wrightsman of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen J. (Sheridan) Thompson, 2 sisters, Thelma Hall and Betty Guenther , 2 brothers, Robert B. Thompson and Jack Thompson.

Calling hours will be on Monday from 6-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with Father John C. Missler, officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Shelby Home and Public Health.
