Stephan Juskewycz, age 85, of Millcreek Twp., passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 at Erie Presbyterian Home. He was born in Komarno, Ukraine, on January 7, 1927, raised in Lviv, Ukraine, one of three children to the late John and Mary (Kornecka) Juskewycz. He is also preceded in death by his wife Jenny, two siblings, Mary and Myron, and two children, Paul and Mary.
He achieved a degree in Business Administration after attending college near Munich, Germany. After WWII, he immigrated to the United States, settling in Titusville, PA with a cousin. He began coin and stamp collecting at a young age and turned this passion into a lifelong profession. His mastery of seven languages and knowledge of European history helped his career. He was also a graceful ballroom dancer, a talent inherited by his grandchildren.
In Titusville, a few months after his arrival, he met and married Jenny Stefaniszyn on July 11, 1950. They celebrated 44 years of marriage before her passing in 1994. In 1956, with four children in tow, they moved to Erie, where he was a produce manager for Loblaws. When his coin collecting became more lucrative, he opened his own coin & stamp store. He then became a wholesaler for many coin and hobby companies and remained self-employed and actively trading until this year. In Erie, he and Jenny had six more children.
He will be missed by his children: Stephan, wife Chris, of Fairfield, Iowa, Sister Martha OCSO of Dubuque, Iowa, Michael, Christine Custer, Catherine West, Barbara, Donna Zboch, husband Bob, and Mark, all of Erie. Also his grandchildren: Alicia and Stephan Nicholas Juskewycz, Kristin Custer, Jennifer and Lisa Juskewycz, Emily, Rebecca, Matthew and Claire West. And his great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Kylee and Gabrielle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Titusville, PA and Lviv, Ukraine. He will also be missed by faithful friends: Slavko, Leysa, Yuliya and Olga Bugera, members of the Ukrainian community and fellow parishioners of Sts. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church.
