Gertrude Cornutt Lawson

Gertrude Cornutt Lawson went home to be with our Lord on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, peacefully in her sleep at her residence.

Born Sept. 21, 1914, she was the wife of Earl Lawson and the mother of John (Francesca Lawson, Philadelphia, PN, and Jan (Garry) Locke, Ringgold, Ga.

She loved her five grandsons: Brian Lawson, Rossville, Ga., Josh (Leah) Locke, Decatur, Ga., Jared Lock, Ringgold, Ga., and Patrick and Kevin Lawson, both of Philadelphia, Penn.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers: Jack, Raymond, Roy and Cecil Cornutt and a sister: Reecie Donohoo Cash, Cleveland, TN.

She is survived by many loving family members, including stepsisters, brother, and sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces and grand nieces and nephews, who have enriched her life by visits and caring acts of love for her.

"Mrs. Trudy" was the oldest member of New Liberty Baptist Church and her church family gave her their loving care. Visits and help at home were gifts received by the family with deep appreciation and lightened her days. She made deep friendships with neighbors and co-workers and they also brought her joy. You knew each day when 2 p.m came, because here dear friend Marie was calling to check on her.

Solomar/AtPeace Hospice nurses, chaplain, physician, volunteers and Misti, her personal caregiver, have also been appreciated for their loving ways of caring for her as her health declined.

Over the last few months, Mrs. Trudy had a wish to feed hungry children. Please consider offering a special gift to your church or favorite charity to celebrate the 98 years of a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, neighbor and friend.

A memorial service will be held at 6 this evening, Dec. 23, 2012, at New Liberty Baptist Church.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens in Cleveland with the Rev. Danny Henson officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 tonight at New Liberty Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
