Donald H. Light, 57, passed away on August 15, 2010, at Faxton-St. Lukes Health Care Center, with his loving family at his side. He was born on September 30, 1952, in Sidney, NY, the son of the late Eric and Myrtie Webster Light. Don graduated from Gilbertsville High School in 1971 and, in 1973, graduated from SUNY Delhi. On June 12, 1976, Don and Mellony Gilbert were married in the Federated Church in West Winfield. He was currently employed as a sales representative with Oneida Asphalt Products in Sangerfield, NY. Don was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and for over 25 years, he and Mell traveled all over the US and Canada racing sled dogs. He was also a stamp collector and fan of both the NY Yankees and NY Giants. The never ending strength, hope, will power and pride he showed will be with his family and friends forever. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, New Hartford. Don is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Mell; his son and his fiance, Jeffrey Light and Emily Watterworth, of Niskayuna, NY; his brother-in-law, John (Jack) Gilbert, of Clayville; his niece, Katherine and Erik Merrill; his nephew, Michael Gilbert; and many cousins. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19, at 9:00 at Zion Lutheran Church, 630 French Rd. in New Hartford. Interment will be in Hillington Cemetery. In memory of Don, please consider donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 4053 Maple Rd. Suite 110, Amherst, NY 14226.
