The children are Mrs. James Smith, James L. Hume and Matthew Hume of Endeavor; William A. Hume of Neenah; John Hume, Mrs. George Bain of Ft. The Portage Register in speaking of the decedent says in part: "In the death of Mr. Hume, the community loses a good citizen, acquaintances, a kind friend and neighbor, and the family a loving father." He was a man of quiet and unassuming manner, and his friends were many. He was a prominent member of Rosseau Post, G.A.R. of this city and served his country valiantly during the Civil War, enlisting in 1864 to serve heavy artillery with Co. F, First Regiment. "Mr. Hume was born November 23, 1831, at Bathgate, Linlithgowshire, Scotland and came to America in 1850, on board a vessel which consumed eight weeks in crossing the Atlantic. The late George Bain Sr., one of the first settlers of Ft. Winnebago, was on board the same vessel.
