Elizabeth Jones Stewart, age 90, of Raleigh, North Carolina, formerly of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2012 at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh. She was born on October 18, 1922 in Montgomery, Alabama to her parents, Charles and May Jones.
Elizabeth was the only daughter and had three brothers. She married Alton Stewart in Montgomery, AL, on July 9, 1944. They had two children. She attended Auburn University and graduated in 1944 with a degree in Home Economics. She was a resident of Huntsville, AL, for 50 years and was employed by Huntsville Schools as a teacher for 18 years. Elizabeth was a member of Latham United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, volunteering at her church in the office, reading, and caring for her husband and family.
Elizabeth will be remembered by her children, Robert E. Stewart and wife Barbara of Durham, NC, and Neata May Williard and husband Don of Nashville, NC. She is also survived by granddaughters, Ellen Richardson, Jill Callanan, and Kristen Aubut, all of Raleigh, NC, and great-grandchildren, Cooper Richardson and Wilson Aubut of Raleigh, NC.
She was predeceased in death by her spouse, Alton Stewart and brothers, Bill, Charles and Marvin Jones.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life for Elizabeth at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Latham United Methodist Church in Huntsville. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
