Florence Mary Lyon Canonic

Florence Mary Lyon Canonic joined her loved ones in the spirit world on December 25, 2012.

She was just a few weeks from her 111th birthday. She was born on February 8, 1902 in Hyde Park, Utah.

The eighth child of George Lyon and Sarah Alice Woolf. She resided in Hyde Park, Benson and Smithfield, Utah before moving to Metropolis, Nevada. Here she graduated from High School and after attending the University of Utah and the University of Nevada, she began her teaching career. She taught in a number of small one room schools in Nevada finally teaching in Genoa, Nevada, where she was the principle. It was here that she met her life's companion, Bert Canonic. They were married in Carson City, Nevada on August 4, 1927. She taught in Pyramid Lake Nevada and then in the Reno School system until her retirement. She loved to travel taking many trips extending to several countries around the world. She has one Son, Keith Canonic who added six children, 14 grand children, 19 great-grand children and 1 great-great-grand child. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In her early nineties she served in the Reno Temple for 2 years.

She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, Loved to camp and fish and spend time with her family.

She was the last of 11 children and a child of a Utah Pioneer that came across the plains from Florence, Nebraska to the Great Salt Lake Basin in 1862.

She will be loved and missed by all that knew her.

Grave side services will be held Thursday January 3, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Mountain View Cemetery, Garden of Devotion 435 Stoker Avenue, Reno, NV 89503.
