Agnes (Burke) Dionne, 78, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 4, 2004 at her home. Agnes was born June 4, 1926 in Quincy, Mass. The family lived in numerous cities across the country and settled in Binghamton in 1962. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, John, and five children, Stephen and Sue Dionne, Albany, N.Y., Robert and Carol Dionne, Plano, Tex., Gregory and Suzie Dionne, Chicago, Ill., Andrea and Rick Knox, Punta Gorda, Fla., and Peter and Shelley Dionne, Binghamton; her seven grandchildren include Amanda, Matthew, Timothy, Natalie, Bethany, Alyse and Luke. She is survived by her sister, Mary and William Coleman, Peabody, Mass.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Matthew P. Dionne; her parents, John and Bridget (Groden) Burke; her sister, Kay; brother, Tom; and niece, Joan. Agnes was active in AOP, LYCEUM and St. Catherine's Church. She retired from the Dept. of Social Services. Throughout her life, she was active in the Democratic Party, taught religious education, was a seniors' advocate, an avid reader and writer, and an artist.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, and 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. Catherine's Church for continued administration of their community outreach program, 1031 Chenango St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13901.
