Thomas Hartford,60 years old, for 22 years a member of the South Bend fire department and for 14 years Captain of No. 7 house house, died this morning at 3 o'clock at St. Joseph hospital, death resulting from a week's illness with bronchial pneumonia. Mr, Hartford also was a member of the old volunter fire department which served the city before the present department was organized.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 o'clock at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic church. Rev. P.J.Carroll, C.S.C. officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The body may be viewed from this evening until the hour before the funeral at the residence, 841 Notre Dame Avenue.
Surviving are one son, Mack,of this city, four daughters , Mrs. Charles Melxell, of Mishawaka, Mrs. Frank Cosgrove of this city,and Edna and Carmel, at home. Four brothers, JAMES, William,John and Harry, All of Los Angeles California and 5 sisters, Mrs. John Hathawayof Ackron, Ohio, Mrs. Gus Kircher and Mrs. Frank Kircher, both of Garrett, Indiana; Mrs. Miles Blake of Elkhart, Ind. and Mrs. Ella Bigler of Los Angeles.
Mr. Hartford was a member of ST. Edwards court, No.1424 Catholic order of foresters
He was also preceded in death by 3 daughters ; twins irene and Ineze ( who died 2 days apart at age 19)of typhoid fever and a daughter Margaret of the same illness 1903
