Vincenzo and Mathilda DiMichele Panei.
He came to the United States in 1903, sailing from Naples on the USS Massilia, arriving at Ellis Island on May 16.
He married Nicolina Camilli Teatino on 21 October 1915 in Butler Pa.
Her husband, Domenico Teatino, had been tragically killed in July 1915. She had just arrived in America with their 2 year old son only months earlier.
I believe since they were all from the same town in Italy that they knew each other, and when Domenico passed, my grandfather Frank stepped up to take care of Nicolina and her child. He raised Domenico's son Paul as his own.
My Dad told me that his father made the headstone for Domenico's grave, and would walk across town from the Southside and up North Main St. hill to the cemetery to visit his grave on Sundays.
I haven't been able to discover where Frank was between 1903 and 1915 when he married my grandmother. If he was in Butler and counted on the 1910 US census, it is very likely his name was misspelled which explains why I haven't been able to find him.
Frank became a US citizen on 7 June 1939.
He worked for and retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad, and
was a member of St. Michaels R. C. Church.
From what I have been told, he was a kind and gentle man.
Frank had at least one sister that I know of for sure. Her name was Marianna, and she came to America in 1907 to marry Giuseppe (Joseph) DeSantis.
Friends were received at the Foschi Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at St. Michaels R.C. Church with the Rev. Vincent Marinaro officiating.
Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
