300 AD Royal ancestry back to pagan sacral Kings of Tara in the 4th Century, Ireland. Lachlan Mor held Cowall and Knapdale, in the days before surnames were used.
537 King Comhgall slain, district of Cowall named for him. Old mss. Says Lachlan Mor- s/o Gilpatrick, s/o Gilchrist, s/o Aedh, s/o Anrothan, cousin of Aodh Ui'neill, King of Ulster 1030-1033. Crossed to Scotland and married the daughter of the King of Dalriada, and received Lands.

11th Century, Anrothan son of Aodh O'Neill, wed a daughter of the local king. She brought the district of Cowall to her husband Anrothan, son of Aodh O'Neill, King of North Ireland.

The first chief to use the MacLachlan name is Gilchrist, grandson of Aodh Alainn O'Neeill, son of Dunsleve 1030-1033. m. d/o Lachlan and granddaughter of Rorie.

Chief Gilpatrick was the 2nd Clan Chief, from 1238-1249, 11 years.Married Elizabeth, d/o a Lord of Cowan, therefore member of Clan Lamont. When she married Gilpatrick her dowry was the land that became MacLachlan territory.
