Andrew J. (A. J.) Jones, 69, of Swifton Village, died February 23, 1998, at his home following a brief illness. Born in Scott County, Tenn., November 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Obey and Sally Robbins Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Jones; and one sister, Irma Smithers. He was a member of Capital Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and was retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne, Ind. He is survived by his wife, Ida Harness Jones; two brothers: Orvil Jones of Redcliff, Ky., and Ira Jones and wife, Edith of Huntsville, Tenn.; two sisters: Helen Bledsoe of Parkridge, Ky., and Shirley Blackburn of West Chester, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted February 26, 1998, at Capital Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dudley Harness, Rev. Ledford Byrd, and Rev. Bobby Massengale officiating. Music was provided by the church choir. Interment followed in the Harness Family Cemetery. West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (Source: The Independent Herald, 5 Mar 1998, p16)
