Levi Wight was son of Nathaniel Wight, born September 12, 1678, who was a founder of Medway, 1713; he married (first) March 31, 1704, Sarah, daughter of John and Mary (Herring) Ellis; he married (second) December 1, 1742, Susannah Barstow,the mother of his children.
Levi Wight and his wife Susannah Bastow took active part in formation of Baptist churches in Connecticut. After many trials and struggles, feeling the need for change in religious principles, Levi and others organized a church in Thompson in 1750, upon the six principles of Christ's doctrine (Hebrew IV:1-2), called Six-principles Baptists. In 1773 he and other formed a distinct Baptist church, being one of the first to be baptized by immersion. He moved to Oxford, Mass, about 1784. His brother John signed his name as John White. Other spelled the surname Wright.
