Her family moved from Hillsboro to Austin in 1965. She was a member of the Central Christian Church of Hillsboro and previously a member of the Central Christian Church of Austin. Survivors include two daughters, Melinda Massey of Brownwood and Penny Bynum of Austin; three sisters, LaVona Fanning of Forestburg, Jimmie Schmoldt of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Pattie Matthews of Fort Worth; five grandchildren, Sarah McNeese of San Antonio, Rachel Massey of Austin, Bert Massey of Austin, Brooke McKinney of Amarillo and Susan Lewallen of Lubbock; and six great-grandchildren
