Chester Knudtson, 94, of Eau Claire, formerly of Eleva, died Monday, January 7. 2013 at Heritage Court Memory Care in Eau Claire.
He was born March 6, 1918 in the Town of Albion, Trempealeau Co., son of Cornel and Elsie (Pederson) Knudtson. On September 20, 1947 Chester married Betty Lou Helwig in the Town of Brunswick, Eau Claire County. They farmed in the Town of Albion until they sold the farm in 2005 and moved to Eau Claire. Chester was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Norden and served on the church council. He was an avid baseball fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals; he enjoyed square dancing and snowmobiling. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty of Eau Claire, WI; five children, Joan (Cal) Fuhrman of Burnsville, MN, Virginia (Steven) Anderson of Madison, WI, Robert (Judy) Knudtson of Stoughton, WI, Kathy (Michael) Collins of Middleton, WI and Margie Clingensmith (Mark Fictum) of Eau Claire, WI; ten grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Fuhrman, Eric (Dana) Fuhrman, Missy (Corey) Cooper, Matt (Brooke) Anderson, Brad Knudtson, Eric Knudtson, Nick Lindgren, Stacy (Bryan) Nikirk, Michelle (Dustin) North, Catherine Clingensmith; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Fuhrman, Patrick Fuhrman, Emma, Addison, Hayden Anderson, Lili North, Deon and Noah Clingensmith; brother-in-law, Charles Helwig of Eau Claire; nieces; nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Sidney and Abner; two sisters, Evelyn Barneson and Delia Calhoun.
Services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Norden in Mondovi, WI with Rev. David Bangert officiating. Burial will be at the Trinity Lutheran of Norden Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Eleva and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
