ABBOTT Naomi S. Abbott, 103 (and 1/2), died January 20, 2002. She was the widow of the late Claude T. Abbott, Sr. and the beloved matriarch of her family. Mrs. Abbott was born July 3, 1898, near Birmingham, Alabama, and was a resident of the Jacksonville/Orange Park area for nearly 65 years. She was an active member of the West Park Street Church of God, and was a founding member of the Collins Road Association and the flamingo Garden Club of Orange Park. She was active for many years in local civic and social organizations and was a long-time member of the Young at Heart Club at the Island View Baptist Church in Orange Park. She was a favorite among her many friends and was loved and admired for her sharp mind, loving nature, elegant style, and keen sense of humor. She is survived by one daughter, Henrietta E. Samples (Maurice), Orange Park, Florida; two sons, Claude T. Abbott, Jr. (Pat), St. Augustine, Florida, and Donald V. Abbott (Fran), Ventura, California; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John W. Little, Evans, Georgia; several nephews and nieces, and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, at the West Park Street Church of God, 5975 Park Street, Jacksonville, with Reverend Todd Wymer officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 22, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
