Killed 15 days after he enlisted at battle of Seven Pines around Richmond,VA The following is a letter from the Captain of Co.H of 23rd Reg. of Ga Volunteer Inf.

"Final statement of John Grigsby a private of Capt. F. M. Young's Co H of the 23rd Regt of Georgia Voluneers. Born in Coweta Co.,State of Georgia aged 29 years 6 feet high fair complexion blue eyes light hair and by profession a farmer, was enlisted by Capt. F.M. Young near Richmond,VA on the 16th day of May, 1862. He had rec'd 15 days five dollars and fifty cents...Given in duplicate near Charleston,SC on this 23rd day of December 1863. R.B. Neal, Capt. Comdg. Co H 23rd Geo. Regt."
