GERRY - June M. Allison, 78, formerly of South Avenue, Jamestown, and Big Tree Sugar Grove Road, Lakewood, died at 10:44 p.m. Saturday (March 29, 2003) in the Heritage Village Health Care Center, Gerry.
A lifelong area resident, she was born May 30, 1924, in Jamestown, the daughter of H. Ralph and Lily Johnson Mead.
She was a 1942 graduate of the former Lakewood High School. Before her retirement in 1995, she was a secretary for the former Four-In-One Screwdrivers Inc. in Jamestown, where she worked for 24 years. Earlier she had worked in the offices of the Marlin Rockwell Corp. and the Raphael School of Beauty Culture. She had also taught private piano lessons for many years.
She attended the Grace Chapel, where she was the pianist for more than 50 years. She was very active with the Union Gospel Mission for many years and served as an officer of the auxiliary. She was also a teacher and pianist for the Chautauqua County Bible Club. In earlier years she was active with the Lakewood School Parent Teachers Association.
She is survived by her husband, Donald C. Allison, whom she married Oct. 29, 1949, in the Ashville United Methodist Church; a son, Dr. Bruce D. Allison of Terre Haute, Ind.; a daughter, Diane J. Allison-Church of Gerry; three grandchildren: David B. Allison of Indianapolis, Peter F. Allison of Terre Haute and Katy J. Allison of Houghton, N.Y.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. John W. Steinhauser of the Union Gospel Mission and James E. Bottomley of Grace Chapel will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
