Mrs. Anderson was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Ruth Matthews and the late Benjamin Ingram Lawrence. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Norma Jones Anderson Lawrence. She was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and a member of The Jimmy McNair Sunday School Class.
Mavis and Lloyd enjoyed the good times they shared with their grandchildren, Charlotte and John in the country and at the beach. She and Lloyd loved antiques and operated The Ole Red Barn in their backyard for over 20 years. The shop gave her the opportunity to meet many new people.
Mavis had a large extended family that gathered each Thanksgiving for a special family reunion. They met at the Elim church started by her forbears, and it was truly the highlight of the year for the Turkey Cousins.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bert Lloyd Anderson, in 2002 and a son, John Charles Anderson, who died in 1974. Also, she was predeceased by brothers Malvin Lawrence, Ingram Lawrence, Harry Lawrence and sister Evelyn Myers.
Surviving are a son, James Lloyd Jim Anderson and his wife, Elizabeth Diddy Anderson, of Florence; two grandchildren, Charlotte Ingram Anderson of Anchorage, Alaska, and John Charles Anderson of Prescott, Ariz.; two sisters, Monetta Scott of Hendersonville, N.C., and Elgiva Wilhoit and her husband, Richmond, of Florence; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in The St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in The Lawrence Cemetery at Elim, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home
