John Forrest was born in New Glasgow, Pictou, Nova Scotia to Dr. Alexander Forrest and Barbara Ross McKenzie, both of whom were Scottish immigrants. He graduated from Presbyterial College in Truro, NS, in 1865 and was ordained as the pastor for St. John's Church in Halifax in 1866. He married Annie E. Prescott Duff (daughter of Rev. William Duff and Jane Elizabeth Fairbanks of Lunenburg, NS) 20 Dec 1871 in Lunenberg. He received his Doctor of Divinity degree from Queen's University in Kingston, NB in 1873 and became the President of Dalhousie University in Halifax, a position he retired from in 1911. He died at the family home at 22 Tobin Street in Halifax, NS at the age of 77 years.∼standing marker only his info, his last name followed by D.D.
