William A. Schneider, “Mr. Kite”, 82, of 310 W. Grand St., Chilton, died on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000.
He was born in Chilton on July 25, 1917, son of the late William and Margaret (Seipel) Schneider. He attended St. Mary Catholic School in Chilton.
Bill owned and operated a dairy farm until retiring in 1980 after which he moved to Chilton and pursued a second career in kite flying.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chilton, Knights of Columbus, Eagles, and a former president of St. Joseph’s Society. He also served on the Calumet Medical Hospital Board during the planning of the hospital and served in that position for 28 years. Bill served on the steering committee for Lake to Lake Diary and was a member of the board for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; five sons, Robert (Alice) Schneider of Mequon, James Schneider of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Peter (Cathy) Schneider of Forestville, Calif., and Philip (Bonnie) Schneider of Chilton; a daughter, Marian (Karl) Kaufman of Appleton; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Msgr Alfred Schneider of Green Bay, Henry (Odelia) Schneider of Hilbert; and two sisters, Ann Becker of Kansas City, Mo., and Eleanor (Jerry) Woelfel of New Holstein.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Steven; a grandchild; a brother, Gilbert Schneider and four sisters, Anita Ruhland, Amanda Schuler, Sally Woelfel, and Gertrude Riesterer.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton with the Rev. Gary New, SDS as officiant. Spring burial will be in the parish cemetery.
