José Hipólito CARDONA, hijo de Hipólito Cardona y Eugenia CISNEROS-ORELLANA de Cardona, nació el 4 de Julio de 1923. Chepe Polo, como lo llamábamos cariñosamente, era un hijo y hermano cariñoso, era popular entre sus amigos/as, y querido por su nobleza, sus bromas, su inteligencia. Estudió en el Instituto Nacional, donde se graduó de Bachiller. Ingresó a la Universidad Nacional de San Salvador, donde siguió la carrera de Abogacia por 3 años.
En ese tiempo en que la inestabilidad política de El Salvador estaba en fuerza, los estudiantes universitarios eran los primeros en atacar al gobierno y algunos de ellos fueron ejecutados, por rebeldía contra el gobierno. Fue entonces cuando sus padres decidieron mandarlo a San Francisco, CA, EU, donde vivió por 7 años en compañía de sus hermanos Pompilio y Consuelo; Interrumpiendo así su carrera de Abogacía.
Siete años después, Chepe Polo regresó a San Salvador, con su hermano, Pompilio su esposa Elena, hijos Yolanda y Carlos Alberto; sobrinos a quienes él quiso mucho.
En ese tiempo, sus padres ya vencidos por los años, tenían un negocio de Transportes. Chepe y Pompilio vinieron a tiempo de coger las "riendas" del negocio, viajando de El Salvador a Honduras.
Chepe, trató de ingresar de nuevo a la Universidad, para seguir sus estudios de Abogacia, pero se encontró con una nueva generación de estudiantes; ya sus compañeros de entonces, se habían graduado, y se sintió fuera de su ambiente, más el hecho de que no quería dejar solo a su hermano a cargo del negocio. Concluyó por dejar sus estudios y ayudar con el negocio de transportes.
El día 27 de Octubre, 1951, Chepe Polo falleció, a la temprana edad de 28 años, pasando a otra vida llena de luz y perdón. Fue enterrado en el Cementerio General de San Salvador, El Salvador. Su ausencia dejo en toda la familia y amigos, un vacío incomparable. El amaba la música popular estadounidense, y su canción favorita era "Blue Moon."
