Born in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, Feb. 7, 1980, he was the son of Saeed Jafarkhani-Torshizi Sr. and Mary Lorraine Travis.
He attended elementary and middle grades in the Moniteau School District and high school in Texas. He later attended Tarrant County Community College in Fort Worth.
The lance corporal, a member of 1st Battalion Charley Co., was in the front lines in the attack in Fallujah, Iraq, and was helping to feed hungry people in Fallujah.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 2003 and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
He loved sports and played baseball from the time he was a child. He also enjoyed movies, music and video games.
Surviving are his mother of Slippery Rock; his father of Tehran, Iran; a half-sister, Mona Jafarkhani-Torshizi of Tehran, Iran; his maternal grandmother, Gladys Skinner Travis of Slippery Rock; and his maternal grandfather, Harvey Travis of Laughlin, Nev.
JAFARKHANI-TORSHIZI JR. - Friends of Lance Cpl. Saeed Jafarkhani-Torshizi Jr., who died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Armstrong, pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church of Slippery Rock, officiating. A committal service will be held at about 1 p.m. Friday at St. Charles Cemetery, New Bethlehem.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tsunami relief efforts.
