Resident of the village of Au Sable Forks, New York for the past 60 years, Alfred LaBombard died at 10:30 o'clock Thursday night, April 16, 1953, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Media Bombard, in his 89th year. Mr. LaBombard was taken critically ill in November, 1952, but recovered somewhat since then although his health gradually failed. He celebrated his 89th birthday anniversary on Monday, April 6, 1953, at which time a family reunion was held.

Born at Middle Kilns near Silver Lake, New York, in the township of Black Brook, he was the son of John and Margaret (Wheel) LaBombard. He attended the public school near his home but went to work at an early age, working in the Arnold Hill iron mines. He was married to Media Dennette of Au Sable Forks village about 60 years ago. She died in 1918 during the Spanish flu epidemic which claimed so many lives in this country. He did not re-marry.

He was an employee of the J. & J. Rogers Company in Au Sable Forks for more than half a century, first in the firm's iron ore mines then in its pulp and paper mills. He was an engineer in the basement of the pulp mill and later in the paper mill for many years. He was one of the few remaining employees who helped build the pulp and paper plants. He retired in his 82nd year.

Older residents remembered Mr. LaBombard as an ardent hunter and fisherman in which pastimes he was an expert. That section of the northeastern Adirondacks was like an open book to him. He knew where to go to lure the fish and bag a deer. They also remember him as a man of character, devoted to his family and good provider.

Survivors were his five daughters and three sons, Mrs. Media Bombard and Mrs. Anna Hodges of Au Sable Forks village, Mrs. George Gonyea of Chazy, New York, Mrs. Adrian Garso of Schenectady, New York, and Mrs. Elizabeth Alford of Schenectady, Frank Bombard of Lake Placid, New York, Fred Bombard and Halsey Bombard of Au Sable Forks, also 26 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren as well as a number of nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning, April 20, 1953, in Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks, where Rev. Paul Hagan celebrated the mass of requiem. Burial was in the family plot in the church cemetery. Rev. Ralph A. Hoffman offered prayers at the grave.

Bearers were Harold and James Bombard, Charles and Alfred LaBombard, jr., Bernard Gonyea of Plattsburg, Junior Gonyea of Chazy.
