Melba Waites, age 93, of Bivins, Texas died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in a local adult care facility.

Melba was born April 29, 1919 in East Tempe, Texas to Charles "Shug" and Timmie Griffin. She was retired from Atlanta Independent School District where she was the cafeteria food director for 15 years. She volunteered her time at voter polls, and was a member of the Atlanta Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Waites; parents, Charles "Shug" and Timmie Griffin; 11 siblings.

Survivors include four sons; Eugene Parrish and wife Verna of Livingston, Texas, Richard Parrish and wife Robbie of Corrigan, Texas, Charles Parrish and wife Adlove of Leggett, Texas, David Waites of Atlanta, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Watson Cemetery with Rev. Arlistel Maxie officiating.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M., Friday, January 25, 2013 at Hanner Funeral Service.
