First graduate of the University of Vermont (1804). He was one of three graduates that first year, and his surname falls first in the alphabet. He was a prominent lawyer at Burlington. His sister Loraine married Timothy L. Follett, a Burlington merchant.

Charles Adams married (1), 1814, Maria Waite of Lyme, Conn., who died 3 Feb. 1823 and is buried in Elmwood Cem. with some of their children; (2), 2 Jan. 1826, Mary Lanman Ingersoll of Keene, N.H., who died 4 May 1832 and is buried in Elmwood Cem. with their two daughters; and (3), 25 Dec. 1833, Mary Ann Barrett, who died in New York in the summer of 1854.

In 1983 his gravestone in Elmwood Cemetery, Burlington (which gives full dates of birth and death) lay flat on the ground, broken in two pieces.
