ONEONTA — Mrs. Dora A. Simmons, 88, of Oneonta died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the Oneonta Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born Sept. 22, 1909, in Denmark, the daughter of Hans and Minnie (Christsen) Anderson.
She married Clifford Simmons on June 5, 1929, in Sayre, Pa. He died March 13, 1946.
Dora was a seamstress at the Richards Dress Company on Chestnut Street, Oneonta for several years. She had also attended beauty school in Albany, and held a beauticians license which she utilized tending to hair in private homes throughout the area.
Dora came to the United States in 1913 and became a naturalized citizen when she married. She has been a member of the West Oneonta Baptist Church since she was 14 years old, a member of the International Ladies Garment Union for 20 years, American Association of Retired Persons and Senior Citizens Club of West Oneonta.
Survived by three sons and daughter-in-laws, Clifford and Jean Simmons Jr., of Binghamton, Ronald and Rosalie Simmons of Oneonta, and Steven and Grace Simmons of Burlington Flats; one daughter, Mrs. Joan Schroll of Albany; also survived by 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Betty Jean Gardner in July 1990, and June Von Brock in April 1987; two brothers, Ernie and Dutch Anderson; and a sister-in-law, Nellie Anderson.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. John Dougherty, pastor of the West Oneonta Baptist Church, West Oneonta officiating.
Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.
