The son of William Woodward and Elizabeth Robinson of Exeter Township, Monroe. Ed married 9 May 1864 and was a father to Lillian Rose,
Charles William, Edward George , Clara,Clarence,and Alice Elizabeth.

He served in the Civil War with Co. A 4th MI Infantry (Smith Guards). He was captured during the Battle of the Wilderness and held prisoner. Honorably discharged, he suffered from illnesses contracted during the war and eventually died from them. His death record notes his death as from dropsy of the heart.

My GG Grandfathers name appears as Edwin, Edward, and Edward George and the surname has been mistakenly spelled Woodard, Woodand on some military lists.
