Angel was a beautiful parakeet budgie that my mother bought me for my 17th birthday. My birthday was August 30th, but I had wanted a blue budgie and we saw her in the store while shopping on August 5th, so Mom bought her for me that day.

She and I were best buddies. She had quite the personality on her. She preferred me to anyone. She would sit on my shoulder while I walked around inside the house. I would sing "Angel On My Shoulder" and "Special Angel" to her. She also learned to "kiss" a person with her beak.

She had a mate, "Mikey," and she laid eggs, but they weren't fertile. She once ran down another budgie for flirting with Mikey while they were playing out of the cage. I heard screaming and looked and sure enough, Angel had the other bird down and was ripping out feathers! After Mikey passed away, she took another mate, Harlequin, but I think they were more like buddies. His mate had died previously. He took care of Angel when she was so sick at the end.
She did the funniest things. Someone slipped a small dog biscuit in her dish just to see what she would do. That silly bird would take it in her beak and walk up her cage walls, across the ceiling, down the other side and drop it back in the dish. She'd do this again and again. It was so funny to watch. She kept that thing for a long time. It was a toy to her.

Angel never hatched any eggs, but she did raise a couple of young birds.
She died in my hand Christmas Eve 1991. I was holding her and sobbing as she was dying and she would reach up with her wing and touch my cheek. I'd move her wing back to make her more comfortable, but she'd do it again and look at me. I really think she was trying to comfort me and tell me goodbye. She had a tumor that the vet said was incurable. I miss her tremendously even after all these years.
